Purpose: To understand all of the major factors that lead to the united states entering WWII.
I. To understand all the events and failures of countries around the world that lead United States into WWII.
A. The signing of the Treaty of Versailles
1. The Woodrow Wilson 14 point plan to keep peace in Europe.
2. War Guilt Clause – Germany should accept the blame for starting WWI.
3. Reparations – Germany had to pay 6,600 million for the damages for War.
4. Disarmament – Germany was only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships.
5. Territorial Clauses – Land was taken away from Germany and given to other countries. Anschluss (union with Austria) was forbidden.

II. Hitler?s actions.
A. Hitler?s build up Germany’s army and weapons.
1. In 1934 he increased the size of the army, began building warships and created a German air force
2. German troops to enter German troops to enter the Rhineland.
B. Failure of appeasement.
1. Britain and France thought the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were unfair to Germany.
2. Hitler’s actions were seen as understandable and justifiable. 
III. Failure of the League of Nations.
A. International organization set up in 1919 to help keep world peace.
1. League and that if there were disputes between countries they could be settled by negotiation rather than by force.
2. Stop trading with the aggressive countries.

IV. United States enters the War.
A. The December 7th 1941 attack of Pearl Harbor.
1. Military prevention of U.S. military involvement in the Pacific.
2. Japanese expansion for natural resources  

Conclusion: In summary there were several events that lead America getting involved in the Second World War. These treaties in which Germany and Japan had signed, the expansion and buildup of both countries and their desires to control both Europe and Asia.
