Organization Theory Individual Essay

Organization Theory Individual Essay
Question: “In considering the influence that technology in general or any single technology has over human affairs, it is … necessary to consider not only the technology and its presumed “imperatives,” but also the key human agents of the technology, the organisations in which they operate, and how these influence the course of technological change” (Rudi, 257). Select two of the four perspectives and discuss how they provide different insights into the relations between technology, organisations, management and employees. (modernism, symbolic interpretivism, critical theory, postmodernism) Related meta-theoretical assumptions (ontology, epistemology, theoretical assumption, methodology)
Instructions: a. This is a theory paper: you need to discuss two out of four theoretical perspectives (choose from modernism, symbolic interpretivism, critical theory, postmodernism) as well as their related meta-theoretical assumptions (ontology, epistemology, theoretical assumptions, methodology where relevant), theories, ideas and/or concepts in answering the assignment question. Therefore, my essay must be grounded in theoretical discussion and not general descriptive writing or case studies.
Please take references from the book Organization Theory: Modern, Symbolic and Postmodern Perspective by Mary Jo Hatch & Ann L. Cunliffe

b. Essay Writing: It must contain a proper introduction. This generally means that your introduction in your essay must include a main argument and statements of intent and the main argument must address the primary task or question raised in your assignment.

Structure 1: Part A. Discuss the chosen two theoretical perspectives’ meta-theoretical assumptions (ontology, epistemology, theoretical assumption, methodology) and show how these assumptions lead to the views (in terms of theories/theoretical ideas on technology) that each perspective hold on the relations between technology, organizations, management and employees. Part B. Once you have demonstrated an understanding of the two perspectives and their theoretical approaches to the relationship between technology, organizations, management and employees, use the material in part A [your discussion of the two perspectives’ meta-theoretical assumptions and their relevant theories/theoretical ideas on technology] to address the passage cited my question. Simply put, what you will be doing in this section is to develop your own arguments and analysis of how each of your two chosen perspectives would respond to the passage cited based on their theoretical assumptions and ideas. Finally, please discuss the criticisms that the two perspectives may offer of each other in relations to their views on technology/technological change and why they made such criticisms.

Structure 2: Please structure my essay according to the two perspectives you have chosen. For example, discuss themeta-theoretical assumptions of modernism and show its views on the relations between technology, organizations, management and employees based on its theories and theoretical ideas on technology. Next, apply these ideas to how the modernist perspective would respond to the passage cited in my question. Once you are done, move on and repeat the process for the next chosen perspective. Finally, please discuss the criticisms the two perspectives offer of each other in relations to their views on technology/technological change and why they made such criticisms.
