ExPERIMENT WITH PSYCHOLOGY

In this Project, you are a cognitive psychologist who writes for the widely read nonprofit blog Go Mental Psych. Today, you are writing a post on how people effectively memorize and process information, and you decide to conduct an experiment that puts two different techniques to the test.

Directions

To prepare for the experiment, review the Project Resources on memory and cognition.

The experiment tests the effectiveness of rote memorization (simple repetition) and eidetic memorization (mental picture association). Before you begin, develop a testable hypothesis that states which technique you think will be more effective. Then, perform the experiment (see Remember This? in Project Resources).

After completing the experiment, write a blog post (you dont need to post it anywhere) in which you discuss the following:

What were your results? Make sure that you include all the data you collected.
Explain the psychology of memory and why one memory technique was expected to work better than the other.
Was this experiment dealing with explicit or implicit memory? What sub-type?
For each technique, was your memory for the words sensory, short-term or long-term? Justify your answer.
Were the two techniques different in encoding, storage or retrieval?
Were your results consistent with current theories? If not, explain.
Illustrate your blog by copying or linking to relevant pictures, videos or audio that you may legally use.
Include a References or Works Cited page. Make sure you cite any quotes or ideas you used in the blog (using any format). Be sure to attribute the sources of any media you use.
