Rufat is a 15 year old teenager who was born and brought up in Scotland. His
family is originally from Pakistan and maintains traditional family and
cultural values. Rufat’s friends have started drinking, smoking and staying
out late. When his family discovers this they are extremely upset and don’t
want him to become involved in these behaviours.
Following a night out with his friends, Rufat comes home smelling of alcohol
and cigarettes. His parents are furious and have forbidden him to see his
friends again.

The Oaks day centre provides activities for young adults with additional support
needs. It is a popular facility and the service users appear to enjoy the varied
activities. Natasha has just started as a support worker at the centre.
The service users have their meals in the dining room, where they select their food
from a buffet table. All staff members are present in the dining room at mealtimes
to assist the service users according to their individual support needs.
